Former Chief Minister terms Tripura Guv ‘Shikhandi’

” Governor here is a mere puppet, acts like ‘Shikhandi'( a character in epic, Mahabharat). He has been a RSS product, thus he does what they dictate,” opined former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, also the opposition leader of this state.
“Persons with RSS background are being posted as Governors.”

He took the recent CM-Journalist row here in slamming the governance and the governor.

Mr Sarkar was addressing a gathering in Agartala on Monday to commemorate 11 CPI(M) members including an elected representative murdered at Birchandra Manu in southern Tripura in 1988 on October 12. Engaged with the elected member two police personnel were too killed. Then it was Congress-TUJS collation at power in the state. CPI(M) tells, Congress-goons killed them in cold blood when the party members assembled there to reopen their office after a few months of forced shutdown.

BJP failed to keep their promises, that they chose terror to mum dissent voice. They even were not ready to allow us in remembering our slain comrades at Birchandra Manu martyr site, and police expressed their inability to provide security, he said.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb led the administration that bulldozed our party offices soon after assuming the power. He thought, he put an end to opposition, CPI(M), Sarkar added.

Tripura CM threatened media of consequences for Covid related news, in a government programme in Sabroom last month. Scribes in aeiges of ‘Assembly of Journalists’ appealed CM to withdraw his comment, which he didn’t.
Later the body met Tripura Governor, he took note of that, however, for no actions till date.

The journalists wrote to Prime Minister, Home Minister and Press Council of India seeking their intervention.

After the CM’s remark, number of journalists were assaulted in the state while no or little police actions followed. The journalists’ body alleged, in many such cases BJP cadres and supporters had been engaged.
