Agartala : Tripura High Court’s Registrar General Satya Gopal Chattopadhyay, who was earlier appointed by the President as judge of the High Court, was on Friday assumed office fulfilling the total strength of four judges in the court.
At a ceremony, the new judge was sworn-in by Tripura High Court’s Chief Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi.
Acting Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, two other judges Subhashish Talapatra and Arindam Lodh, senior lawyers were attended in the swearing-in ceremony.
One post of judge of Tripura High Court has been lying vacant for the past three years (since March 2017) after the retirement of Justice Swapan Chandra Das.
Along with Tripura, separate High Courts were also set up in Manipur and Meghalaya in March 2013.
Since 1975, Sikkim has a separate High Court also. Earlier, the seven northeastern states were under the Gauhati High Court.
